Description

NGC 4631 is an edge-on spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. This galaxy's slightly distorted wedge shape gives it the appearance of a herring or a whale, hence its nickname. Because it is nearby and seen edge-on from Earth, this galaxy provides better understanding of the gas and stars located outside its plane. NGC 4631 has a nearby companion dwarf elliptical galaxy, NGC 4627.(Source Wikipedia).

Used the Meade 12"LX200 at F7.5. Employed 80 subs at ISO1600 and 5 minutes and 10 minutes each (11.83hr) on 4/23 (18 at 5m and 9 at 10m), 4/24 (18), 4/25 (18), and 4/27 (17). Processing was done with PixInsight. This is a slight crop -- North is up. This is intended as the final image.

Not a bad result, but somewhat disappointed that the amount of integration time did not bring out a better image.
